Update

Alex is doing well. For anyone who doesn't know, we had a fun ride to the hospital on Friday night. During the day I took him to the Dr for a cough that he's had for a while now. The Dr wanted to try an inhaler for asthma because he gets this cough a lot. When we got home he had lunch and took a nap. After his nap he had a bit of a fever. I sat on the couch and watched a movie while he laid down and kind of slept while watching it with me. Suddenly he sat up and started crying. Then he started seizing. This is his second seizure. When he had the first one, in June, the ER had told us to just watch him the next time he had one. They said if he wasn't breathing or if the seizure lasted longer than 3 minutes that's when I had to worry. Well... it's really hard to watch your son have a seizure and not react. I only waited about 30 seconds. I grabbed my keys and my purse to take him to the hospital (it's only 3 blocks away) but then I realized I didn't want him in his carseat in the back of the car while he was having a seizure so I called 911. While on the phone with the 911 operator he stopped seizing (about 2 minutes total) and just fell asleep right way. The paramedics got here and he wouldn't even wake up. They even checked his blood (they said the most common reason kids his age have seizures is fevers, the second most common reason is low blood sugar) and when they pricked his finger he didn't even twitch. This really worried me. Finally after about 5 minutes, he woke up and the paramedics took us to the hospital. My mom and dad and Jen and Shaylee met us there. When we got there his temperature was 103.9. The Dr figured that's why he had the seizure, but then the question was why was his fever so high? They did a chest x-ray and found out he has pneumonia. They sent us home with some antibiotics and that was that. They had asked if I'd be more comfortable keeping him in the hospital but I decided it would be best to take him home. I think he had another seizure in the night because when he woke up he had blood in his mouth like he had bitten his tongue or something. But he's doing ok now. He only stayed awake for a total of about 5 hours on Saturday and about 8 hours today but the rest is probably good for him. He finally ate for the first time tonight since Friday afternoon, so I'm sure that's a good sign. Anyway, when he's awake, he's either laying on me watching TV or he's up playing around so he's slowly getting better. Just wanted to keep everyone posted...
